The ducks return

Last year around this time we had a pair of ducks in our backyard, right by the pine trees. This year another (the same?) couple arrived at the exact same location.

And back in 2009, during late spring we had these guests in our front yard.

As we celebrate our anniversary, the ducks were out for a romantic date of their own.

The birds have been busier than this blog so I'm just going to post a picture every day or so of the happenings in our yard.

I spotted this female mallard in the backyard, and wondered what she was doing there. When she flew off I noticed a male followed her, and he must have been at the feeder. I didn't know ducks visited bird feeders but a friend had also seen some around theirs a few days later.

I went for a walk this morning and passed this storm pond. There are four pairs of ducks in various stages of the head under butt up feeding position.
